Welcome to an early look preview of the Netflix Originals set to arrive on Netflix globally throughout August 2022. Lots of movies are coming up including the highly anticipated Jamie Fox fantasy thriller and a new comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart.

English Netflix Originals Coming in August 2022
Wedding Season
Coming to Netflix: August 4th
Pallavi Sharda will play Asha and Suraj Sharma plays Ravi in this new romantic comedy movie from Jax Media and Imagine Entertainment.
The movie, directed by Tom Dey (best known for Shanghai Noon), is about two individuals who agree to go to weddings as a pair to avoid uncomfortable conversations. Their friendship quickly blossoms into love, though.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie
Coming to Netflix: August 5th
From Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures comes the exclusive release of the 82-minute long animated movie set in the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Among the voice cast assembled for the movie includes Ben Schwartz, Omar Benson Millar and Brandon Mychal Smith.
Here’s what you can expect from the movie:
“When a mysterious stranger arrives from the future with a dire warning, Leo is forced to rise and lead his brothers, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey in a fight to save the world from a terrifying alien species.”
The Sandman (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: August 5th
One of the most ambitious TV releases of 2022 for Netflix is undoubtedly The Sandman led by Tom Sturridge who plays the role of Dream. It’s a series adapted from the Neil Gaiman comic books which has been impossible up until this point to adapt.
Here’s the basic premise of the new series:
“Upon escaping after decades of imprisonment by a mortal wizard, Dream, the personification of dreams, sets about to reclaim his lost equipment.”
Locke & Key (Season 3)
Coming to Netflix: August 10th
Adapted from the Joe Hill comics, we’ve had two solid seasons of Locke & Key which will be wrapping up with its third and final season in August.
You can expect even more magical keys to be found plus the Locke’s having to face off against their gravest threat yet.
DOTA: Dragon’s Blood (Book 3)
Coming to Netflix: August 11th
Announced at Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022, the third season of DOTA: Dragons Blood based on the beloved video game hits in August 2022. The story continues the journey of Davion and company, as they continue their journey to rid the world of Dragons to make it a safer place.
13: The Musical
Coming to Netflix: August 12th
One of the biggest musicals Netflix has produced to date will premiere in August in the form of 13: The Musical. It’s based on the on-stage musical by Jason Robert Brown and Dan Elish and about a young boy moving from New York City to a small town in Indiana.
Josh Peck leads the cast with Rhea Perlman, Debra Messing and Peter Hermann also set to star.
Day Shift
Coming to Netflix: August 12th
J.J. Perry directs this new action fantasy comedy starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco.
Here’s what you can expect from the movie:
“A hard-working blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.”
Never Have I Ever (Season 3)
Coming to Netflix: August 12th
Created by Mindy Kaling, Never Have I Ever has quietly become of one of Netflix’s best comedies and it returns in quick succession for its third season in August.
The good/bad news for fans of the show is that while it’s been renewed for a fourth season it will be the last. Season 4 of Never Have I Ever is coming to Netflix in 2023.
Look Both Ways
Coming to Netflix: August 17th
Previously known as Plus/Minus, this movie is now known as Look Both Ways which sees Lili Reinhart play the role of Natalie who is about to attend her college graduation and gets to play out two parallel realities. In one reality, she becomes pregnant and then navigates motherhood. In the other reality, she starts a long career in Los Angeles.
Wanuri Kahiu and also in the cast include Danny Ramirez, David Corenswet, Aisha Dee, Andrea Savage, Luke Wilson, and Nia Long.
The Cuphead Show! (Season 2)
Coming to Netflix: August 19th
Following its debut on Netflix in February 2022, the beautifully animated kids series based on the video game will be returning for a new batch of episodes in August. We’ll continue our misadventures with both Cuphead and Mugman meeting lots of new foes and friends along the way.
The show has also been renewed for a third and final season.
Lost Ollie
Coming to Netflix: August 24th
Based on the book Ollie’s Odyssey, this is Netflix’s equivalent of Toy Story. The limited series is about a lost toy who adventures across the countryside to reunite with his owner.
Me Time
Coming to Netflix: August 26th
Rounding out August and Netflix’s summer of movies will be Me Time starring Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart. It’s directed and written by John Hamburg (who is behind Little Fockers and Why Him?) and is about a father who is headed out for a wild weekend with his old buddy having not had time away from his wife and kids in years. Think The Hangover.
I Came By
Coming to Netflix: August 31st
Directed and co-written by Babak Anvari, this new British thriller stars George MacKay, Hugh Bonneville and Kelly Macdonald.
I Came By follows a rebellious young graffiti artist who targets the homes of the wealthy elite but discovers a shocking secret that leads him on a journey endangering himself and those closest to him.
The movie will also have a theatrical release in the United Kingdom from August 19th.

- Super Giant Robot Brothers (Season 1) – August 4th – Kids animated series following two giant robots who discover they are brothers, as they help defend Earth from the forces of intergalactic evil.
- Instant Dream Home (Season 1) – August 10th – Part home renovation show and part heist movie hosted by Danielle Brooks.
- The Cuphead Show! (Season 2) – August 19th – Returning season of the animated kids series.
- Selling the OC – August 24th – Reality series.
- Mo – August 24th – New comedy series from Mo Amer and Ramy Youssef produced by A24.
Non-English Netflix Originals Coming in August 2022
Kakegurui Twin
Coming to Netflix: August 4th, 2022
Language: Japanese
Kakegurui Twins is a spinoff manga that was announced all the way back in November 2021 and set to arrive at some point in August 2022.
MAPPA is producing the anime with Minami Tanaka reprising her role as Meari Saotome.
Netflix is currently home to the two main series of Kakegurui (it’s unclear whether there’ll be a season 3).
Royalteen
Coming to Netflix: August 17th
Language: Norweigen
This new romance movie coming out of Norway stars Ines Høysæter Asserson and Mathias Storhøi.
Here’s what you can expect:
“Follows prince Karl Johan and newcomer Lena, who have feelings for each other but are aware that their relationship might put them in an impossible situation, while he has to carry a nation on his shoulders, she carries lies on hers.”
The Next 365 Days
Coming to Netflix: August 19th
Language: Polish
Following the release of 365 Days: This Day which itself was capitalizing on the unlikely pandemic success of 365 Days is the third movie entry coming in August 2022.
The erotic thriller will continue (and hopefully for all our sakes conclude) the story of Massimo and Anna.
Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: August 25th
Language: Japanese
Following Rilakkuma and Kaoru which debuted on Netflix in 2019, we’ll be headed to the theme park for our next adventure with the slice-of-life anime series.
First announced in 2020, the series finally debuts towards the latter end of August. Here’s what you can expect:
“The series depicts an active day of incidents and meetings that take place when Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, Kiiroitori, and Kaoru go play in an amusement park that is about to close.”
Loving Adults
Coming to Netflix: August 26th
Language: Danish
Adapted from the novel by Anna Ekberg, this new thriller is about what happens to a marriage when the love of your life becomes your worst enemy. The movie is described as a dark and twisted, yet sexy take on a love triangle that you don’t want to be in.
