Welcome to an extremely early look ahead at the Netflix Originals set to release in September 2022. Below, we’ll keep you updated on all the new shows and movies produced and released exclusively by Netflix throughout the month.
Of course, this doesn’t represent everything coming to Netflix in September. All regions of Netflix also receives licensed movies and series throughout each month. We’ll cover the new movies and shows coming in both the United States and the United Kingdom on a separate date.

English Language Netflix Originals Coming in September 2022
Love in the Villa
Coming to Netflix: September 1st
Kat Graham (How It Ends) and Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) will co-star in this new romantic comedy based on an original screenplay by Mark Steven Johnson who will also direct.
Filmed in Verona, Italy this movie was filmed between September 2021 and January 2022 and is about a young woman who ventures out on vacation after a breakup but finds the apartment she is due to stay in is double booked.
Ivy & Bean
Coming to Netflix: September 2nd
This new kids movie follows a pair of friends who are almost the exact opposites of each other. Nevertheless, they go on adventures with each other. Based on the Annie Barrows book series.
Cobra Kai (Season 5)
Coming to Netflix: September 9th
New seasons of Cobra Kai have been coming thick and fast and this year, you’ll have to wait even less time for the fifth season of The Karate Kid spin-off series, which originally began its life on YouTube.
This season sees John Kreese behind bars after being backstabbed by his now former partner. The new season will see unlikely partnerships continue and rivalries continue to burn bright.
DO REVENGE (2022)
Coming to Netflix: September 16th
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing and writing this brand new comedy movie from Likely Story, headlined by Maya Hawke, Sophie Turn, and Paris Berelc.
Here’s what you can expect from the movie that runs at just under 2 hours in length:
“After a clandestine meet-cute, Drea (Alpha, fallen it girl) and Eleanor (beta, new alt girl) team up to go after each other’s tormentors. Do Revenge is a subverted Hitchcock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.”
My Little Pony: Make Your Mark
Coming to Netflix: September 26th
Following the release of My Little Pony: A New Generation in 2021, we’ll be getting lots of new MLP content in 2022. Make Your Mark will release at the end of May and in September, we’ll get eight new episodes of the 3D series coming.
Here’s the official logline for the new show:
“Welcome back to Equestria, where pony magic is everywhere. With friends Zipp, Sunny, Izzy, Pipp and Hitch leading the way, adventure is sure to follow!”
Blonde
Coming to Netflix: September 23rd
Andrew Dominik directs this brand new Netflix movie that brings us a reimagined take on the life and career of Marilyn Monroe. It’s based on the book by Joyce Carol Oates and sees Ana de Armas take up the lead role with Bobby Cannavale and Adrien Brody co-starring.
The movie is notably Netflix’s first NC-17 movie release and is one of the most anticipated Netflix fall movies.
Entergalactic
Coming to Netflix: September 30th
Created by Kid Kudi, this new series comes from MAD SOLAR and Khalabo Ink Society. The animated series (with a style reminiscent of Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse) is about two young artists navigating the twists and turns of finding love in New York City.
The voice cast for the project includes Timothée Chalamet, Ty Dolla $ign, Laura Harrier, Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Teyana Taylor, Arturo Castro and Macaulay Culkin.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Coming to Netflix: September 2022 TBD
Based on the Cyberpunk games by Polish games studio CD PROJEKT RED, this anime series is based specifically on the world established in Cyberpunk 2077.
It’s being animated by the Japanese studio Trigger and is about a Street Kid trying to survive in the technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future.
End of the Road
Coming to Netflix: September 2022 TBD
From 42, the same production company behind The Weekend Away released earlier this year, comes a new mystery thriller headlined by Queen Latifah.
Directed by Millicent Shelton, the movie is about a recent widow traveling across the country to start a new life but the trip itself is mired as she becomes the target of a killer.
Rounding out the cast of the movie includes Beau Bridges, Ludacris, Frances Lee McCain, and Jesse Luken.
Lou
Coming to Netflix: September 2022 TBD
J.J. Abrams is producing this brand new crime mystery movie that comes to Netflix exclusively from Bad Robot.
The movie is about an elderly woman living on a remote island recruited by a neighbor to search for her daughter who has been kidnapped.
Jurnee Smollet, best known for Birds of Prey, leads the cast with Logan Marshall-Green, Allison Janney and Greyston Holt also starring.

Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- (Season 2)
Coming to Netflix: September 15th
Language: Japanese
Eleven more episodes of the dark fantasy anime series will hit on September 15th. It’s unclear whether Netflix will label these episodes within season 1 or given them a second season label.
Drifting Home
Coming to Netflix: September 16th
Language: Japanese
Hiroyasu Ishida, best known for his work on Rain Town, Penguin Highway and MFKZ will be directing this new anime movie about two friends who get a shock when the housing complex they live in drifts out to sea.
The Empress
Coming to Netflix: September 29th
Language: German
One of the many projects coming out of Germany is The Empress, which Bridgerton fans should instantly add to their Netflix queue.
Starring Devrim Lingnau and Philip Froissant, the story follows a forbidden love between the Emporer of Austria and the rebellious Elisabeth.
All 6 episodes of the new period drama drop towards the end of the month.
Rainbow (2022)
Coming to Netflix: September 30th
Language: Spanish
If you love The Wizard of Oz, you’ll want to check out this new Spanish-language coming-of-age movie because it’s partially inspired by it, albeit it’s almost unrecognizable from the original tale.
It comes from writer and direct Paco León and stars DORA, Áyax Pedrosa, Wekaforé Jibril, and Carmen Maura.
Athena
Coming to Netflix: TBA
Language: French
Romain Gavras directs this highly anticipated French-language movie.
Here’s what you can expect:
“Hours after the tragic death of their youngest brother in unexplained circumstances, three siblings have their lives thrown into chaos.”
